Designing with AI

Describe the board you want in a sentence and pick from three AI drafts — then refine it with plain-English edits.

VenueOS can design complete, on-brand boards from a one-sentence description — and then edit them the same way. This guide covers turning AI on, generating your first board, and refining it.

Turn AI on (one time, admin only)

AI runs on your AI account so you control the spend:

  1. Open Settings → AI provider → Configure.
  2. Pick a provider — Anthropic (Claude) is recommended; OpenAI and Google also work.
  3. Paste an API key from that provider (each option shows exactly where to get one).
  4. Choose a model tier — Standard for everyday copy, Premium for full board designs.

We test the key before saving, so a typo fails loudly here instead of silently later. If a teammate sees "AI isn't enabled yet," this step is what's missing.

Generate a board

  1. Open Templates and click Generate with AI.
  2. Describe what you want, the way you'd tell a designer: "a taco special board for Friday happy hour with our brand colors".
  3. You get three different drafts — Balanced, Bold, and Detailed. Open any of them full-screen.
  4. Keep the one you like. It lands in your template library, fully editable, and photo-appropriate boards come back with a real, relevant photo already art-directed behind legible text.

Nothing is published to a screen until you schedule it — generating is always safe to explore.

Edit with words

Inside the builder, every AI-capable zone has an Edit with words box:

  1. Type one change at a time — "make the title bigger", "use the brand color on the header". Short, single instructions work best.
  2. Review the proposed change it shows you.
  3. Apply or Discard. Undo (⌘Z) always restores the previous look if you change your mind.

The sparkle button

Text fields across the builder have a ✨ button that writes or rewrites copy in context — announcement blurbs, menu descriptions, welcome messages. Same provider, same controls.

Translate a whole board

Translate in the builder's top bar localizes every text field on the board in one pass — useful for multilingual campuses and menus.

Costs and limits

  • AI calls bill to your provider key — typical text generations cost fractions of a cent; full board designs cost a few cents each.
  • Hourly caps are built in so a runaway session can't surprise you.
  • No key configured? Every AI button says so honestly and the rest of VenueOS works exactly the same.
